Megumi Fushiguro vs Weiss Schnee (Jujutsu Kaisen vs RWBY)

A sword wields no strength unless the hand that holds it has courage.” – The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Megumi Fushiguro, the head of the Zenin Clan and inheritor of the Ten Shadows Cursed Technique.

Weiss Schnee, the ex-heiress of the Schnee Dust Company and inheritor of the Glyph Semblance.

The burden of a legacy is by no means a small one. Especially when your family legacy is...well, flaming crap mixed with garbage, to put things lightly. But when the world needs heroes to step up and fight the threats that seek to destroy it, there's never a better time to prove that you are more than just your name and the deeds of your predecessors, and to use the powers they passed down to you to forge your own path, all with the help of a few new friends when things get really rough - or when you inevitably get possessed by a monster and get turned into an evil version of yourself. We'll be pitting two such combatants against each other. Will Megumi draw forth the deepest shadows to come out on top? Or will Weiss carve her own way to victory?

Also they seriously need a W, they keep getting screwed over by their writers.

Before We Start...

Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen and RWBY are in effect!

For Megumi, I will be using all canon material, which includes the JJK and JJK 0 manga, the anime adaptation, the JJK 0 film, and the light novels. I'm also using the Jujutsu Kaisen databook and Jump GIGA Summer 2021 JJK "Deep Learning Mathematics Lecture" as guides. The video games Cursed Clash and Phantom Parade were not taken into account, which is explained in Before the Verdict.

For Weiss, I will also be using all canon material, which includes the RWBY web series (trailers and character shorts included), its adjacent series World of Remnant, Grimm Campaign and Ice Queendom, the various novels, the video games Grimm Eclipse, Amity Arena and Arrowfell, the RWBY 2015 manga, the Ice Queendom manga and the RWBY DC comics run. Background

Megumi

"Karma doesn't happen on its own. Criminals are disciplined under the law. Jujustu sorcerers are only a cog in this retribution. If only more good people...could receive fairness. I'll save people...whether or not it's fair!"

In a world full of negativity, beings known as curses thrived, born from those dreaded emotions like clay that shaped them, they lived a threat to humanity, and a mess that had to be cleaned up. And the people in charge of that were the Jujutsu Sorcerers!

These curse things are ugly, but when you have these guys, there's nothing to worry about! We have people go to Jujutsu High instead of a normal high school, and there are the third and second years, but let's take a look at the 3 first years, lead by the strongest sorcerer, Satoru Gojo! First, there's Yuji Itadori, a guy possessed by the strongest curse, Nobara Kugisaki, a country girl who likes the city more, and Megumi Fushiguro... the emo one. Ew.

Megumi had it rough growing up; his dad, Toji Fushiguro, the legendary sorcerer killer, left to get milk and never returned, and his mum vanished, leaving the young Megumi under the care of his older step-sister, Tsumiki. He got into a couple fights at school, but his life changed when the most powerful sorcerer, Satoru Gojo, came to enroll him in Jujutsu High and teach him all he needed to know. His life went for a loop again upon meeting Yuji Itadori, the vessel for Sukuna, the King of Curses. He became his classmate, and along with Nobara and Gojo, became pretty successful sorcerers.

However, this was all then broken by many tragic things. His sister had been possessed by some random horny woman, and the ancient sorcerer Kenjaku was on a conquest over the world. Worst of all, Nobara was mortally wounded and thousands were dead, including Gojo of all people, at the hands of Sukuna, who had also taken his body for it's extreme potential use to him.

However, Yuji and a band of sorcerers refused to let things go their way, and fought Sukuna in one final clash for the history books. It took extreme wounds and pain, and blows were traded, but Yuji continued to fight Sukuna (who's also his uncle), for Megumi, because he wanted his friend back in his own body. In the end, Yuji's efforts prevailed, and he did the impossible, exorcising Sukuna, and ensuring humanity's future would live on.

In the end. Megumi's shackles were broken, and he was free to roam the earth's soils for another day. After reuniting with his friends, they continued their business as sorcerers, exorcising curses for the greater good of humanity.  Despite their losses, they could only move forward, as that's what life was about; embracing what you've lost and accepting it so you can continue to move forward. And thus, Megumi and the gang set out, step by step, to rekindle the flame of hope for humanity brighter than ever, and to lead sorcerers into the next generation.

Weiss

"I'm a Schnee. I have a legacy of honor to uphold. Once I realized I was capable of fighting, there was no longer a question of what I would do with my life. It was my duty."

Also in a world full of negativity, the land is plagued with creatures of darkness known as Grimm, drawn by negative emotions to hunt the people of Remnant. Whenever you see a big bad wolf Grimm, there's only one type of person you need to call: The Huntresses!

These guys are so badass. Take Ruby, the main character. She turned Little Red Riding Hood into a tale in which Red Riding Hood beats the hell out of the wolf with a sniper rifle/scythe thing. Talk about crazy! Huntresses and Huntsman use a material known as Dust to amp up their weapons. And it's produced through Faunus (animal hybrids) slave labor by the SDC, or the Schnee Dust Company! Of course, nowadays, their heiress and Ruby's teammate isn't a fan of slave labor. Introducing Weiss Schnee!

Like we said before, Ms. Ice Queen here is the heiress (not anymore, as you'll soon find out) to the Schnee Dust Company, one of the biggest companies and racists on the face of Remnant. Weiss trained since a young age to sharpen her skills and enter Beacon Academy, one of the most prestigous schools for aspiring Hunters. However, she just had to stumble upon young Ruby Rose, and through a series of unfortunate events, ended up becoming her partner.

Her dynamic with Ruby started off rocky. Weiss wasn't too happy with being lead by such a person, let alone someone 2 years younger. She believed that she should have been the one to lead team RWBY. However, as time progressed, her colder personality gave way to a great bond, not just with Ruby, but her other teammates Blake and Yang. By the time they reached Atlas, they were already working together in harmony. Until Beacon fell at the hands of Headmaster Ozpin's ex-wife, Salem, leaving many scars for team RWBY.

After the fall of Beacon, she returned to Atlas, but still desired to fight with her team. Her father (who was actually in cahoots with the bad guy), was against this and even removed her rights to the SDC, giving it to her younger brother Whitley instead. Weiss didn't let that faze her, and reuniting with team RWBY, she fought off invasions by Salem and saved Mistral and Atlas (at least Atlas's population), and stood up to her father, declaring herself a true Huntress, something she confidently accepted in the Ever After.

Despite the scars and fears she faced, Weiss has stood tall, because if we gave up every time we were scared, then nobody would get anywhere in life. Weiss had changed throughout the years, from Ice Queen to beloved teammate. And thus, Weiss and the others continued on in their quest to stop Salem and change the world, restoring faith to humanity's beliefs that no matter how big a wall is, with enough will, you can smash it down. (Simon?) Again, if you ever see some Grimm on Main Street, just call the Huntsmen. They'd be happy to lend a hand.

Experience and Skill

Megumi

When Megumi enlisted at Tokyo Jujutsu High, he was ranked at Grade 2, which is already considered as a genius for a student, and was the only first year to be authorised to take solo missions, as shown in the first chapter where he tracked down Sukuna's finger without too much issue despite not receiving specific directions. He's also been trained in close combat by Satoru Gojo (the GOAT) and Maki Zenin, the best cursed tool user in Jujutsu High, and has trained with a variety of different of weapons, such as polearms, tonfas and swords, all of which he has a reasonable proficiency in, and has allowed him to keep up with more experienced sorcerers such as Noritoshi Kamo and Reggie Star.

Megumi's most reliable asset is his own intelligence. By observing the movements of the Kyoto students during the Goodwill Event, he, along with Panda, worked out their intention to assassinate Yuji Itadori. He could also identify the weak point in Hanami's shell, his eye branches, after seeing Noritoshi's Piercing Blood harm them, despite all previous attacks elsewhere failing, while considering the possibility that Noritoshi had previously held back before confirming the weakness for himself. Just seeing the appearance of the Second Finger Bearer allowed him to quickly connect the Yasohachi Bridge deaths to Sukuna's revival despite originally thinking it was useless to think about its behaviour.

Megumi is also great at deception. Against Noritoshi Kamo, he faked an attack with an injured shikigami, distracting the Kamo heir long enough for Megumi to summon max Elephant to turn the tables. When fighting the Disaster Curse Dagon, Megumi pretended to engage in a Domain clash, expanding his Domain to nullify Dagon's sure-hit attack, whereas in actuality he was using it to open a hole to allow him and his allies to escape. He later tricked Kirara Hoshi into thinking he had dispelled Divine Dog: Totality, having actually jammed it behind a wall to prevent it from attracting to him due to Kirara's technique Love Rendezvous, only releasing the shikigami when Kirara was between them, forcing his opponent to cancel their technique and allowing Megumi to restrain them. He pulled a similar move against Reggie by pretending that Divine Dog had been destroyed by Reggie, only to reveal he had hidden the shikigami away instead, allowing it to land a fatal blow when Reggie was distracted.

Perhaps the best display of Megumi's skill and intelligence is his consistent ability to analyse and work out his opponent's Cursed Techniques, which is impressive because of all the weird, wacky and physics-breaking powers there are in Jujutsu Kaisen. He could work out Jiro Awasaka's Inverse Technique, first by using an obvious lie by saying Gojo was still in Shibuya to determine that it wasn't damage nullification, before noting Awasaka's reaction to being struck by his rabbit shikigami as well as the effects of his own attacks, allowing to deduce that the technique turned strong attacks weak and weak attacks strong, and came up with a plan for him and Yuji to take down the Curse User. Even more impressive was when Megumi deciphered Kirara Hoshi's Love Rendezvous, a far more complex power. By deploying Rabbit Escape to observe which areas were covered by the attraction and repulsion effects of the technique as well as the different star markings that appeared, he correctly assumed that it was based off the Southern Cross constellation, using his knowledge of stargazing from Tsumiki. He also deduced that there was sequential order for determining which marked targets can approach other marked objects, and tracked down the fifth star (the Southern Cross only has 4 stars by the way, so Megumi also figured this out) by detecting residues of Cursed Energy.

Outside of his intellect, Megumi also possesses a great knowledge of jujutsu and physical combat to an extent. He can at least defend and survive against people much better than him in most aspects, like his own dad, and his strategy at both long and close range with Shikigami allow him to be more unpredictable in scope. It's mostly thanks to his own strategies that he's able to survive against such superior foes, like luring the much faster Toji into an alleyway to force him to attack from one direction, redirecting his attack to a non-vital area by destabilising his footing with a shadow, before trying to finish Toji off by holding him in place and using a sword he'd hidden in his shadow.

He's fought the Finger Bearer and multiple curses at the same time, and has even went against Sukuna, although he had 3 fingers at the time, so he was weaker than what we see his higher ends at.

He's fought multiple other skilled combatants and at least survived, so that's important to note that when it comes to fighting, he isn't exactly very weak. He can take hits and dodge em, it's just that when it comes to the series where all people do is throw hands, he's the among the most tactical in his showings. Overall, Megumi is a very good fighter with great capabilities.

Weiss

As the future heiress of the Schnee Dust Company, Weiss was raised from a young age to strive for perfection, and combat was no exception. During the Vytal Festival, Weiss was ranked top of her sparring class, and for damn good reason too.

She was properly trained in how to use Myrtenaster, a weapon she built by herself, and her Glyphs in conjunction. She primarily uses a fencing style in combat, relying high speed thrusts and slashes with her rapier. She's also very refined in her technique, so don't steal her kill. I'm looking at you, Ruby.

Also Weiss didn't receive any weapon upgrades in Volume 7, because it's stated by the writers that she's already perfect in combat, not to mention she's been trained by her older sister Winter, an Atlesian Specialist, and the Ace-Ops, some of Atlas's best fighters. Hah Megumi's cooked get skill-diffed

Having fought her own fair share of battles, even before meeting RWBY, such as the Arma Gigas, she was already set out to be a natural huntress and leader. Except not because Ruby got that part. Regardless, she and team RWBY have improvised deadly team maneuvers and executed them flawlessly, proving everyone's - especially Weiss's, because she was a critical part in a lot of them - to be powerful combatants.

She's also one of the smartest, if not the standalone smartest, combatant on her team, the only other one being Blake, basically. She was the one who suggested Emerald use her Semblance to disguise herself as Penny to trick Ironwood and take him down by surprise, all while the real Penny went to unlock the Vault to obtain the Relic of Creation. Despite her weaknesses, she's fought to overcome them, and gotten stronger as a result. She's also gotten more creative over the years, such as using her abilities to help fight off the Ace Ops, and even at least defend against Maidens like Cinder. Hell, she was so good at it, she became a Huntress early, which is something to be proud of, not gonna lie.

She's used her glyphs in a multiple variety of ways. Defending from Vernal, offensive against the Queen Lancer, even when she had limited space and resources, and MUCH less battlefield control and yet she still at least kept pace with them, if not.... losing. Yeah, she's the Vegeta of RWBY. Doesn't make her weak, though, just... unlucky. She's fought the Ace Ops with RWBY, who were much more skilled and experienced, and they beat them through sheer tactical genius and unpredictability.

Weiss has extremely well mastery over her Semblance, thanks to her training often with said Semblance. Sure, things sometimes don't go her way, but with her trusty Glyphs, she was still able to hold down the Curious Cat. She can understand quick thinking from people such as Ruby, even back in Volume 1, with the Nevermore.

Weiss can also take a good hit, and yet still get back up and keep fighting. Sure, big hits like Cinder's lance could take her out of commission from a fight entirely, but she's taken hits from people like the Furious Cat, and still got up and kept fighting until she exposed or discovered a critical weakness and rushed in for the finishing blow.

But the most important thing, after all, was the friends she made along the way. No kidding, she went from Ice Queen to low-key becoming comedic relief in Volume 9. W character growth. And it's thanks to the bonds she made, and the things she learned from them. She's the type of person to take a page out of another person's book to steer the fight in her direction. With kick-ass music in the background! HELL YEAH!!!!!

Equipment

Megumi

Tonfas

During the Goodwill Event, Megumi used wooden tonfas. In his fight with Noritoshi Kamo, Megumi reinforced them with cursed energy and used them to deflect arrows and fight on equal terms with Noritoshi, although they eventually broke due to the latter's enhanced strength.

Swords

Megumi has used swords as his weapon of choice, both of which were cursed tools, weapons imbued with Cursed Energy. His current signature weapon is a one-handed sword with a double-edged blade. Megumi used this sword during the Shibuya Incident after his original sword (depicted above) broke against the Finger Bearer, using it in his fights against Jiro Awasaka and Toji Fushiguro, and later during the Culling Games against Reggie Star and his group.

Playful Cloud

Image

Playful Cloud is a three section staff and a special grade cursed tool once owned by Toji Fushiguro. It relies on the raw physical power of the wielder rather than high levels of Cursed Energy, as it amplifies the wielder's strength using its Cursed Energy. Using Playful Cloud allowed Megumi to harm Hanami despite only possessing average physical strength, though  Megumi did admit he was uncomfortable wielding it.

Weiss

Myrtenaster

Weiss's signature weapon, Myrtenaster, is classified as a 'Multi Action Dust Rapier' (MADR). It is a rapier with a revolver-like chamber around the ricasso. The chamber contains six slots for Dust vials generally containing red, cyan, violet, white, yellow and blue Dust, and is activated by a trigger on the underside of one of the prongs. The mechanism can be opened on a hinge, allowing Weiss to reload Dust vials.

Dust

Dust is the main source of energy on Remnant. It can either be crystalline or powdered and is highly explosive. Its physical properties are extremely useful, especially in combat, and is used in a variety of weapons, including Weiss's Myrtenaster, which has specialised slots for powdered Dust vials, allowing Weiss to directly use their elemental effects from her rapier. Weiss can also infuse Dust into her Glyphs, giving them elemental properties. This will be covered in the Abilities section.
  • Fire (Red): Weiss can use this to ignite her blade or send waves of fire at her enemies.
  • Lightning (Yellow): Weiss can use this to electrocute her enemies.
  • Wind (Green): Weiss can use this to produce whirlwinds to repel and block attacks.
  • Ice (Blue): Weiss can use this to produce a wall of ice to block attacks or trap enemies and freeze them solid, or create a sheet of ice on the ground.
  • Hard Light (Cyan): Weiss can use this to form a barrier to block and repel attacks.
  • Earth (White): Weiss can use this to create a wall of rocks to block attacks.
  • Gravity (Purple/Violet): Weiss hasn't used this in conjunction with Myrtenaster, but it can be used to create a gravitational field to either attract or repel objects, recall weapons, cause objects to float or increase the impact force of an attack.

Scroll

Remnant's counterpart to a smartphone, Scrolls are holographic tablets that can be collapsed for easier carry. While it has a lot of niche uses, most aren't combat applicable, aside from one. Weiss can use her Scroll to gauge the Aura level of herself and her allies, displayed in the form of video game health bars.

Arrowfell Items (Debatable)

why didn't they use the Revive Ring on Penny? are they stupid?

In the video game Arrowfell, Weiss and her teammates can access various support items by purchasing them from the Shop...yeah, you can see the problem with this. While the storyline of Arrowfell is canon, the items are more debatable considering they only ever appear in the video game and the only way to obtain them is through a game mechanic. While they won't affect the Verdict, it's still worth mentioning.

  • Energy Boost: Restores Weiss’s Aura.

  • Chocolate Bar and Yakisoba: Heals Weiss from direct physical damage and injuries.

  • Wonder Potion: Heals both Weiss and her Aura.

  • Revive Ring: Restore’s Weiss’s health after losing all of it.

  • Extra Heart: Increases the number of hits Weiss can take without her Aura.

Abilities

Megumi

Cursed Energy

Cursed Energy is energy that is generated from humans' negative emotions, including anger, fear, jealousy and hatred. While the vast majority of humankind possesses Cursed Energy, those that possess a level of Cursed Energy above a certain threshold can see cursed spirits and are called jujutsu sorcerers. Sorcerers are trained to generate Cursed Energy from the smallest triggers of emotion in order to avoid wasting Cursed Energy when they feel intense emotion.

Cursed Energy flows from the gut to the rest of the body, and there are three main aspects to controlling it: Output (出力), the amount of Cursed Energy you release; Quantity (総量), the Cursed Energy reserves you possess; and Manipulation (操作) , how well you can use and control your Cursed Energy. Controlling activated Cursed Energy is the fundamental first step of any sorcerer, and most of them can consciously make Cursed Energy flow through different parts of the body. By viewing the body holistically, one can improve their control over the flow of their Cursed Energy. The art of using Cursed Energy in physical combat is known as Taijutsu, whereas its application in the usages of Cursed Techniques is known as Jujutsu.

Being a negative form of energy and all, Cursed Energy has various harmful effects on non-sorcerers. Injuries caused by Cursed Energy effectively curse the victim, causing extreme pain, weakening of the body, becoming ill and eventually death, and prolonged exposure to Cursed Energy can erode the mind. Cursed Energy does possess some drawbacks to sorcerers as well; a large build-up of negative emotion can disrupt proper Cursed Energy refinement. Otherwise, it has several useful applications, some of which are listed below. This also includes being able to perceive and interact with Cursed Spirits, which cannot be sensed by non-sorcerers or video recording devices and can be intangible. Cursed Energy is the only way to reliably harm Cursed Spirits, as they have high resistance to physical attacks.

Applications of Cursed Energy

Physical Enhancement: By flowing Cursed Energy throughout their body, sorcerers can increase their physical capabilities, allowing them to enhance the force of strikes and reduce the amount of damage they take. Megumi could reinforce his body with Cursed Energy to withstand being crushed by the weight of Reggie's cars. Other sorcerers such as Todo could focus their Cursed Energy into one spot to minimise damage.

Emotional Empowerment: By converting negative emotions into Cursed Energy, sorcerers can enhance their physical power. When fighting Choso, Yuji overcame his fear and converted it into Cursed Energy. Upon becoming overcome by a new sense of passion, Yuta's body began coursing with Cursed Energy and his senses became more finely attuned. Similarly, upon realising his position as an adult and his desire to protect his students, Atsuya Kusakabe exerted more effort than usual in his fight against Sukuna.

Water Walking: By reinforcing his feet with Cursed Energy, Reggie Star could stand on the surface of Megumi's Domain, which is composed of intangible, permeable liquid shadows.

Revealing One's Hand

r/JujutsuPowerScaling - I’ve been confused by the revealing your cursed technique thing

A Binding Vow that increases Megumi's Cursed Energy output in exchange for vocally divulging how his Cursed Technique works. Megumi likely used this to recover his Cursed Energy output to summon Mahoraga after being severely injured by Toji Fushiguro and Haruta Shigemo and suffering from burnout due to using his Domain.

Ten Shadows

An inherited Cursed Technique passed down the Zenin Clan, it allows Megumi to summon ten shikigami using liquid shadows created with Cursed Energy as an intermediary. The shikigami are summoned with shadowgraphic hand signs, and must be first subjugated in an exorcism ritual to be controlled, with the exception of Divine Dogs.

Summoned Shikigami can be manifested and dispelled at any time as long as Megumi has enough Cursed Energy. This allows Megumi to rapidly switch between shikigami mid-fight and prevent them from being destroyed. Megumi can also launch his shikigami directly from his own body.

The technique doesn't just stop at shikigami; it allows Megumi to conceal himself and his shikigami inside shadows and move through them, allowing him to tail people incognito and knock them out, avoid attacks and launch surprise attacks by ejecting himself from the shadow, or even summon shikigami from within the shadow. Megumi can also store items in his shadow, allowing him to retrieve them at any time. He can also control his own shadow, using it to destabilise and restrain opponents such as Toji and Sukuna.

Divine Dogs/Gyokuken

A pair of twin wolf shikigami, one white, and one black. Inheritors of the Ten Shadows receive them as a sort of 'starting pack' which they can use to exorcise the other shikigami in rituals and work their way up.

On top of being able to rip apart lower Grade Curses like tissue paper and having high agility, the Divine Dogs have an acute sense of smell and hearing, making them useful for tracking down people and pathfinding a way to an exit.

Also, they're really good doggies.

image

Divine Dog: Totality

After losing the white Divine Dog to the Special Grade Finger Bearer curse at the Eishu Juvenile Detention Centre, its power was inherited by its twin, allowing the black wolf shikigami to take on a much more powerful form, aka, Divine Dog:Totality.

The most powerful tamed shikigami in Megumi's arsenal, Totality is powerful enough to damage Special Grade Curses. Megumi uses this as his current go-to shikigami, capitalising on its impressive speed and powerful claws to catch opponents by surprise. It's also durable in its own right, being relatively unaffected by Reggie stabbing it through the mouth and later fatally injuring the reincarnated sorcerer with a single strike.

Nue

Animated GIF of Megumi Fushiguro from the anime Jujutsu Kaisen, depicted in action amidst a dark, industrial setting.

A large owl-like shikigami, Nue is one of Megumi's more versatile shikigami, thanks to its flight capabilities and electro-shock wings capable of discharging purple electricity powerful enough to induce paralysis, and has been compared to Kashimo's electricity, which is confirmed to be lightning-speed. It's great for catching falls (also seen above), reconnaissance and making a quick getaway. Depending on how it's used, it can even be effective in narrow indoor spaces.

Toad/Gama

A human-sized frog (toad?) shikigami. It's mainly a support due to being relatively weak, but it's useful for carrying people to safety (in its mouth, no less) and pulling them out of harm's way, even against super fast opponents like Toji. It's also great at throwing people around with its long tongue.

YEET

The Well's Unknown Abyss

An extension technique created by Megumi, Megumi can fuse together Nue and Toad by combining their hand signs, creating their shadows in subsequence, creating new winged toad shikigami. While weaker compared to their originals, they can be destroyed without consequences as long as Nue and Toad are alive. They can fly and be used to intercept projectiles or restrain opponents.

Great Serpent/Orochi

A massive snake shikigami, Great Serpent is useful for surprise attacks due to how quickly it can be summoned, even catching Sukuna off-guard. It can immobilise its opponents mid-air due to its sheer size and use its powerful bite to restrain and neutralise them. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by Sukuna during his fight with Megumi.

Max Elephant/Bansho

A pink elephant shikigami, Max Elephant requires a large amount of Cursed Energy to summon, so Megumi generally uses the shikigami by itself. Its sheer weight is useful for flattening opponents into pancakes or breaking their bones, and it can unleash a massive torrent of water from its trunk, enough to flood a hallway and break a concrete wall through sheer water pressure.

Rabbit Escape

a couple of anime characters standing on a street

A massive swarm of multiple rabbit shikigami, Rabbit Escape differs from the others as rabbit shikigami can continue to be summoned limitlessly no matter how many you destroy, aside from one rabbit with the symbol that resembles the 'Cloth of Various Things', which when destroyed, will result in the rest of the rabbits being destroyed. Due to the overwhelming numbers of the swarm, it's very difficult to find this specific rabbit, making them useful for buying time to retreat or escape. Megumi also used them to trap and blindside opponents, block attacks, cushion landings and help figure out cursed techniques. While they're weak individually, you do not want to underestimate them, because these rabbits can throw hands.

Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga

POV: when mild inconvenience

The most powerful shikigami of the Ten Shadows, Mahoraga is also uncontrollable, having never been tamed once in the history of the cursed technique, until Sukuna came along. Mahoraga is summoned in a ritual by invoking the incantation "With this scared treasure I summon Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga." (seriously, what a mouthful). Other people can be included in the ritual but Mahoraga will not be tamed if they defeat it. If the summoner dies during the subjugation they are placed in a state of suspended death until the ritual ends, either when Mahoraga or other people in the ritual die.

Mahoraga has the ability to adapt to any and all phenomena, depicted by the wheel turning over its head. When Mahoraga encounters an obstacle such as an enemy attack or defence, it begins to analyse the obstacle. When it finishes analysing, the wheel turns, signifying that Mahoraga had adapted to that obstacle, allowing Mahoraga to become more resistant to an attack or being able to overcome a defensive property. The adaptation process is very quick, as shown by Mahoraga adapting to see Sukuna's Dismantle after experiencing it once, and the process is sped up if Mahoraga experiences the same attack multiple times. Even after completing its adaptation, Mahoraga can continue to analyse and develop different ways, both offensive and defensive, to counter the phenomenon. Each turn also completely regenerates Mahoraga's injuries, from cuts and slashes to having its head sliced in half, being chopped up into chunks and turned into a bloody paste by Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine.

Mahoraga also carries the Sword of Extermination on its forearm, which possesses positive energy, making it effective at killing cursed spirits

Domain Expansion: Chimera Shadow Garden

Megumi's very own Domain Expansion which he pulled off in his fight against the Second Finger Bearer by going beyond his limits. Chimera Shadow Garden floods the surrounding area with liquid shadows, granting Megumi the ability to manifest multiple shikigami from Ten Shadows. These shikigami an be summoned from anywhere in the Domain, including from above, and lack the weaknesses of the standard Ten Shadows, i.e. they can't be permanently destroyed. It also allows him to create multiple clones of himself to aid him in combat or act as decoys. These clones can also travel through shadows, much like Megumi himself.

Despite being an incomplete domain without a barrier or sure-hit, Chimera Shadow Garden can  boost Megumi's potential by 120%, enhancing both his physical stats and his technique. In fact, the lack of a barrier has proven to be somewhat helpful as an anti-domain technique, Hollow Wicker Basket, proved to be ineffective against it. On the other hand, it is incapable of trapping people by itself and requires a pre-existing closed space to be effective, although Megumi has implied he can use Chimera Shadow Garden without natural barriers, just that it wouldn't be very useful.

Anybody caught in the Domain has to reinforce their feet with Cursed Energy or will otherwise sink into the shadows, where there is no buoyancy, resistance or oxygen, causing them to fall indefinitely and eventually drown. Megumi himself can stand on its surface just fine and can even glide across it with shadow toads. Huh.

Innate Domain

Image

The mental landscape of sorcerers, non-sorcerers and curses alike, an Innate Domain is a metaphysical space that embodies the mind and soul. The Innate Domain likely serves as the foundation of an innate Cursed Technique. It also prevents external forces from materialising within the body, protecting against attacks that form at specific points in space.

Domain Expansions are the only way to physically construct or 'expand' the Innate Domain by separating it from the space around it with a barrier and imbuing it with the innate Cursed Technique. It is possible to expand a Domain without a barrier by using Cursed Energy to form it in an enclosed space, much like Megumi has done, but this will be incomplete and lack a sure-hit attack.

Megumi's Innate Domain appears to be two columns of spinal bone tied with bow-shaped ropes and roots sprouting from the top, and briefly appears when he uses Domain Expansion before vanishing.

Resistances

Foreign Intrusions: Due to the body being like a living Domain, foreign intrusions cannot manifest in the body. They must enter the body via piercing the skin or be breathed inside, like toxins.

Mind Manipulation: Should be comparable to Nobara who could resist the compulsion effects of a cursed word user who had amplified his Cursed Technique using talismans and an improvised domain.

Extreme Heat and Fire Manipulation: Should be comparable to Naobito and Nanami, who even when weakened, could survive being in the presence of an enraged Jogo, whose presence could char a man and vaporise the ashes of multiple people with just a finger flick. The same sorcerers could also survive Jogo's flames which vaporised metal, albeit with severe to fatal injuries.

Weiss

Aura

totes not just Ren, Ruby, and Sun

Aura is the manifestation of a living soul. Every living being has a soul, including Humans, Faunus and animals. The only form of life incapable of using Aura are the Creatures of Grimm, due to lacking a soul. Theoretically, with enough practice, anyone can use Aura, and upon unlocking it, they can gain access to a wide range of abilities.

Applications of Aura

  • Defence: The most common application of Aura, it covers the wielder with a protective forcefield, protecting them from damage, but sensations such as heat and pain can still be felt. Extensive training is required to maintain a cloak of Aura subconsciously. Skilled users can also focus their Aura into a concentrated shield.
  • Offence: An active Aura grants the wielder enhanced strength. It can also enhance the force of strikes, creating visible shockwaves. All tools and equipment can be used as conduits for a person's Aura, allowing the wielder to project their Aura as a blade of energy, increasing their attack range and power.
  • Regeneration: Aura grants the wielder a mild healing factor, allowing the wielder to heal from minor wounds such as cuts and black eyes. Those with higher Aura reserves can heal from impalement.
  • Extrasensory Perception: Aura grants the wielder enhanced senses, allowing them to detect nearby danger, described as the sense of feeling watched without knowing that someone was there. It can also be used to sense approaching enemies and has allowed wielders to fight completely blind.
  • Dust Usage: In order to use the power of Dust, the wielder must use their Aura to trigger it, an effect that lasts even for long distances.
  • Aura Unlocking: Aura wielders can unlock the others' Aura. Anyone can do this as long as they are strongly attuned to their soul.

Semblance: Glyphs

Semblances are a projection of Aura into a more tangible form, which is a fancy way of saying they're superpowers specific to an individual. Weiss's Semblance, Glyphs, is unique in the fact that it's hereditary in the Schnee family line.

Weiss's Semblance allows her to create flat circular white glyphs (who would've guessed). The basic glyphs act as solid platforms which have the ability to control motion, whether that be propelling Weiss at high speeds, accelerate other people, bullets or crates packed with Dust, launch targets as heavy as the Arma Gigas into the air and restrain them or hold herself in place. They can also be used as a shield, as she did when defending herself from the Boarbatusk's charge. Weiss can also infuse them with Dust, giving them elemental properties as listed below. Also they're good for busting locks.

Weiss can create multiple Glyphs at the same time, allowing her to attack from multiple angles by bouncing between them like a human pinball, skate along surfaces or run up completely vertical surfaces.

Glyphs+

If I had a nickel for every time a popular animated show had a terrible game adaptation and appeared in my blog, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.

In the Arrowfell video game, after training with Winter, Weiss's Dust-infused Glyphs can explode, releasing a hail of Dust-infused shards. She also learned how to reduce her Dust consumption by half.

Ice Glyph

By infusing Ice Dust into her glyphs, Weiss can create ice, which she can use to form different constructs such as a sword, a wall, a slide, platforms to cross water or a protective dome, fire barrages of ice projectiles, create a sheet of ice to slip up opponents or to create a makeshift smokescreen, immobilise enemies by covering them in ice or freeze and shatter their body parts. She can also create oddly realistic decoys, such as when she used Ice Dust to make a fake Beowolf to trick Cardin. Why wasn't this ever in the show?

Fire Glyph

FIREBALL!

By infusing her Glyphs with Fire Dust, Weiss can shoot fireballs from them. Neat.

Gravity Glyph

By infusing her Glyphs with Gravity Dust, Weiss can create these unique black Glyphs, allowing her and others to stick onto it by creating a gravity field. She can also use them to propel herself mid-air, stick onto surfaces upside-down and pullrestrain or repel enemies or suspend them in the air.

Hard Light Glyph

Probably not the actual glyph, but whatever

By infusing her Glyphs with Hard Light Dust, Weiss can fire a barrage of homing energy projectiles...allegedly. (cough VSBW cough).

Time Dilation Glyph

Weiss’ Semblance-One of Weiss' most notable abilities is her Semblance, which allows her to create glyphs that can be used in

"Ah yes, my Time Dilation technique I haven't used since the Poser era"

By infusing her Glyph with Lightning Dust, Weiss can create a time dilation field which greatly speeds up the movements and actions of herself and others within it.

Summoning Glyph

The Schnee Family's ultimate technique, Weiss can summon white avatars of opponents she has killed. Weiss can alter the size of these avatars, teleport them with her Glyphs and summon parts of them instantly. These avatars can be summoned multiple times even if destroyed.

Below is a list of avatars which Weiss has used:
  • Arma Gigas: A Geist possessing a massive medieval suit of armour wielding a massive sword and Weiss's signature summon. The Arma Gigas was apparently created by the SDC and used as part of her father's test to decide whether she could attend Beacon...that's messed up.
  • Boarbatusk: A large boar-esque Grimm with two sets of sharp curved tusks and powerful plated armour but a weak underbelly. For some reason, the Boarbatusk can replicate Sonic's Spin Dash. A similar summon by Weiss's mother, Willow, was strong enough to briefly hold back the Hound.
  • Queen Lancer: A hornet-like Grimm the size of a cargo airship, and Weiss's main choice of mobility thanks to its flight. The Queen Lancer can also fire spikes from its face, as well its stinger, which was powerful enough to pierce through Hazel Rainart and drag him back into Haven Academy.
  • Nevermore: A large avian Grimm. Its main methods of attack are smashing into its opponent with its bony head like a battering ram or firing its feathers like projectiles.
  • Manticore: A lion-like flying Grimm. It can sting its enemies with its poisonous tail or shoot fireballs from its mouth, and is fast enough to catch up with a train. While Weiss only summoned this in the RWBY X Justice League film (see Before the Verdict), Weiss has slain Manticores before so likely could summon them as well.
There are various other avatars that Weiss could theoretically summon due to having slain them previously, such as Beowolves, Ursa, Sabyrs and Centinels, but they don't really possess any special abilities and we have yet to see Weiss use them. Hopefully, in the future, we'll get the chance (Where is RWBY Volume 10, Viz???).

Resistances

Extreme Heat and Cold: Weiss survived getting hit by a plume of lavawalked through a blizzard in casual clothing with no discomfort, and traversed the kingdom of Atlas, which resides in Remnant's North Pole, without wearing proper protective clothing. Other Aura users can withstand the heat of steam and being engulfed with flames.

Scaling

Megumi

Jujutsu Sorcerers

Being a Grade 2 sorcerer, Megumi is ranked above Panda, a Semi-Grade 2, who could block Mechamaru's Ultimate Cannon and overpower him. Megumi was also capable of keeping up with Noritoshi Kamo, a Semi-Grade 1, and survive an extended beatdown from Aoi Todo. During the Shibuya Incident, a reincarnated Toji Fushiguro became a conscience that attacked the strongest and he attacked Megumi, putting him above weakened Nanami, Naobito and Incomplete Heavenly Restriction Maki. Megumi could also possibly be around the same level as Grade 1 sorcerers, due to defeating the Special Grade Finger Bearer, which requires a Sorcerer to be at least Grade 1 to defeat (see Before the Verdict).

Special Grade Curses

Megumi could harm the second Finger Bearer with a kick, and Divine Dog: Totality could one-shot it. The same shikigami was also able to harm a casual Hanami, and Megumi could also harm him along with Maki. Sukuna even implied that Megumi could've defeated the first Finger Bearer had he not ran away, which was before he started summoning Totality. While it's unlikely that Megumi can fully scale to the Disaster Curses physically (see Before the Verdict), his shikigami can, especially when one has been stated to be able to harm them. He can also scale to Cursed Womb Naoya, as Noritoshi, who Megumi was shown to be on par with, could harm and takes hits from the vengeful cursed spirit.

Mahoraga's Scaling

Mahoraga is by far the deadliest shikigami in Megumi's arsenal, and is on a completely different level to anything else Megumi has to offer. The untamed shikigami was capable of going blow to blow with 15 Finger Sukuna and surviving and deflecting his Dismantle slashes, meaning it should be above the likes of Jogo, who performed far worse against Sukuna, and various other high tiers who are considered below 15F Sukuna in the verse. (see Before the Verdict)

Weiss

Team RWBY

undefined

Being a member of Team RWBY and all, Weiss should be naturally comparable to her fellow teammates, having been shown to keep up with them, fight the same enemies and perform comparable feats. Team RWBY consists of Ruby Rose, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long.

Various Grimm

As a Huntress, Weiss has encountered and slain all kinds of Grimm, so she should clearly scale to most of them, as well as any others her teammates or other Huntsmen and Huntresses have fought. Of course, she doesn't scale to Grimm that have been clearly depicted above her level such as the Leviathan, Wyvern, Monstra, Tempests and the Hound.

Salem's Inner Circle

The main antagonists of the series, Weiss and her teammates have encountered and fought on par with them, so should be comparable. Weiss has some pretty notable showings herself, from impaling Hazel with her Lancer summon to briefly being able go toe-to-toe with Fall Maiden Cinder. However, I won't be granting Weiss Maiden scaling which will be explained in Before the Verdict

Misc. Huntsmen and Characters

As one of the protagonists of the series, there are various feats from her allies and enemies which Weiss should be comparable to, many of which either she or her teammates have fought or been shown to be relative to.

Weaknesses

Megumi

a black and white drawing of a person with the letter i on their face

Damn bro got slapped

Being the #1 jobber of the Jujutsu Kaisen verse.  If one of his shikigami is completely destroyed or killed, Megumi can no longer summon that shikigami, although its power will be inherited by others. Summoning untamed shikigami like Mahoraga poses a grave risk to Megumi as he cannot control them until he exorcises them in a ritual, and due to its unparalleled power and the fact that none of the previous users ever tamed Mahoraga, Megumi only summons Mahoraga as a last resort, usually to achieve a double suicide. It is also possible to interrupt the summoning process by either preventing Megumi from performing the necessary hand signs, or interrupting the incantation if he tries to summon Mahoraga, although the only cases where this was successful were due to Megumi being caught off-guard.

Due to being incomplete, his Domain Expansion lacks both a sure-hit attack and its own barrier, forcing Megumi to use natural barriers in his environment instead as otherwise his enemies can easily escape. Casting Domain Expansion also costs a lot of Cursed Energy, meaning Megumi can only use it once before entering a state of burnout, although he has been able to continue fighting and use his Cursed Technique despite this. Megumi must also bear the weight of anything stored in his shadows. limiting the number of objects he can store in his shadow, which can and has been used against him in the past.

Weiss

Can't even beat an unnamed character smh

Being the #1 jobber of the RWBY verse.  As great as Aura is, it has clear limits. First off, damage to Aura is cumulative and it will deplete with every attack Weiss takes, eventually causing it to break. Strong enough attacks like Adam's Moonslice can completely bypass Aura while simultaneously breaking it. Once her Aura breaks, Weiss can no longer use her Semblance or any of the other benefits Aura brings, turning once safe hits into lethal ones. Aura can also be drained by prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures. Granted, Weiss has been shown to be capable of fighting after losing her Aura. Aura is not a perfect forcefield either, as while it blocks damage, sensations such as heat and pain can still be felt.

In terms of her Semblance, Weiss's glyphs can be destroyed or overpowered with enough force, as shown when they were broken trying to slow the descent of a cargo plane or against Cinder Fall's Maiden powers. Weiss's stronger summons like Arma Gigas take a few seconds to be summoned, which allows others time to disrupt the summoning process and leaves Weiss open to attacks, although she can summon parts of them instantly. Weiss also has a limited Dust supply which can run out eventually.

Before the Verdict

Genuinely wtf is wrong with Jujutsu Kaisen and RWBY powerscaling

Megumi

Is Mahoraga an Actual Win-con For Megumi?

NAH, I'D ADAPT : r/Jujutsufolk

It's honestly fair to call into question whether Mahoraga can be used, since summoning this shikigami is portrayed as a suicide move for Megumi, automatically resulting in his death.

This isn't strictly true if we look at the context of Mahoraga's summoning scene. At that point, Megumi had exhausted his Cursed Energy and was badly injured from Toji Fushiguro and Haruta Shigemo, and was in no condition to continue fighting, not even trying to avoid Mahoraga's attack. Had Megumi been in better condition, there was a possibility that he could have escaped after summoning Mahoraga, albeit leaving the shikigami to rampage unattended. There have also been occasions where Megumi has attempted to summon Mahoraga without an explicit intention to take himself out in the process, so it's not a 100% guaranteed self-destruct move.

In addition, if Megumi is killed during the ritual, he is placed in a state of suspended death, from which he can be revived as shown by Sukuna healing him with Reversed Cursed Technique. Megumi can not 'die' as long as the ritual is ongoing, so technically he can outlast his opponent if Mahoraga kills them, even if it's by a fraction of a second. While the practicality of summoning Mahoraga is questionable, it is perfectly usable and a viable win condition for Megumi.

In the end, you could just say it brings Megumi's HP to 1, but he's still alive... so maybe.

Sukuna's Ten Shadows

Megumi has only summoned seven of the ten shikigami that comes with his cursed technique. We've only seen the three missing shikigami (Round Deer, Tiger Funeral and Piercing Ox) be summoned by Sukuna while he was possessing Megumi's body. Given that they're still a part of Megumi's Ten Shadows technique, Megumi should theoretically have access to them.

However, you will notice that these shikigami aren't mentioned in Megumi's section about his Cursed Technique. This is simply because it's highly implied that Megumi never managed to tame them, so has never summoned them in battle. You could argue that he also summoned Mahoraga despite it being untamed, but that has only ever been as a last resort. There have also been several instances where summoning one of the other 3 shikigami may have been more useful, even if untamed, but Megumi has never chosen to do so. Given that it would be out of character for Megumi to summon them in a ritual when he has never showed any inclination nor capability to do so, they have been excluded from the verdict.

This also applies for some of Sukuna's other applications of Ten Shadows, such as Merged Beast Agito or summoning Divine Dogs as partial shadows, although usages which don't contradict Megumi's own usage of the technique such as summoning shikigami from within a shadow should be fine to use.

Where the Hell Does Megumi Scale???

Strap in fellas, this is going to be a long one.

Megumi is one of the hardest characters to scale in Jujutsu Kaisen. While he's teased to have the potential to outclass Yuji and perhaps even rival Gojo, we never get to seen him at the pinnacle of his power due to Sukuna's possession. This meant Megumi is stuck somewhere near the lower rungs of the power scaling ladder with the capability to reach higher thanks to his shikigami. Let's break down Megumi's scaling into 3 parts: himself, his shikigami and Mahoraga.

Despite being officially a Grade 2 sorcerer, Megumi fought Noritoshi Kamo, a semi-Grade 1, and could react to and block his strikes even when the latter was enhanced by Flowing Red Scale. Considering Megumi received a recommendation for promotion to Grade 1 and a semi-Grade 1 rank is achieved by sorcerer who successfully complete their mission following a Grade 1 recommendation, Megumi should be comparable to other semi-Grade 1s like Toge Inumaki and Ultimate Mechamaru (Mode: Absolute is a different beast entirely and isn't applicable for Megumi), as well as Cursed Womb Naoya, who Noritoshi harmed and took hits from in his strongest form on multiple occasions.

He should also downscale from Grade 1 Sorcerer Todo, as while Todo could be argued to have been holding back because he wasn't using his Cursed Technique, Megumi was still able to recover from Todo's physical strikes which have no indication of him holding back (seriously, this guy plowed Megumi through a building just because he said he was boring) and Todo mentions that he doesn't feel any will to fight from Megumi, with Megumi then saying he'd go all out before the fight was interrupted by Toge, which suggests Megumi was also holding back. And no, Megumi wasn't going to summon Mahoraga on Todo.

Even so, Megumi did make it clear that Todo was superior both in speed and power in a pure 1v1, making Grade 1 scaling for Megumi a bit questionable. Also, while Megumi was shown to be stronger than Nanami, Naobito and Maki due to Toji attacking him over the other 3, context matters. Nanami and Naobito were both maimed from their encounter with Dagon whereas Megumi hadn't received any injuries when Toji attacked him. Of the three, Megumi can only be compared to pre-Heavenly Restriction Maki, which in itself is slightly dubious due to Maki also being injured, albeit nowhere near to the same extent, so I've given Megumi the benefit of the doubt.

However, there is another argument for Megumi scaling to Grade 1 sorcerers considering early in the series Sukuna implied that Megumi could've defeated the 1st Finger Bearer, a Special Grade Curse, had he not ran away. Sorcerers need to be at least Grade 1 to exorcise Special Grade Curses, and Megumi did later defeat the stronger 2nd Finger Bearer by himself after unlocking his Domain and expanding his applications of Ten Shadows. In this case, it was more likely that Sukuna was referring to Megumi's Cursed Technique. i.e. his shikigami, but considering Megumi is a frontline fighter in conjunction with his summons and he fought on par with those who can restrain or harm his shikigami as well as the fact he had to exorcise most of the shikigami to tame and summon them, he shouldn't be too far behind most of them. Grade 1 scaling for Megumi should be applicable so he can at very least least downscale, if not fully scale, to Todo withstanding Body Repel, Nanami creating an intensity 2.0 earthquake, and Kusakabe blocking Uzumaki-

Wait, Kusakabe scaling is debatable? Dammit, I thought we were done with this.

*sigh*

Given that Megumi hasn't been shown to be exactly on par with the Grade 1 sorcerers we've seen so far and there's a strong argument for only downscaling from them, it's very questionable to scale Megumi to Kusakabe, when he's been called the strongest Grade 1 sorcerer by Mei Mei, Kento Nanami AND Satoru Gojo. This is the same guy who can throw hands with Sukuna! It's not without reason to think Megumi can't scale to Kusakabe...but it turns out he can! Or at least, to the blocking Uzumaki feat.

Firstly, while Gojo did consider Kusakabe to be the strongest Grade 1, he did state that his opinion may change if accounting for sorcerers from the Big Three Families, which does include the Zenin Clan Megumi is from. Mei Mei even stated that in terms of raw strength, both her and Nanami were above him. Another point is that Kusakabe repeatedly stated that he avoids fights with Special Grade curses, whereas Megumi took down the Special Grade Finger Bearer all on his own. While this could be attributed to Kusakabe's cowardice, he was willing to fight Toshihisa Negi and Manami Suda who he considered below his level, suggesting that special grades do pose a notable threat to him. A third and final point is that going all out like he did against Sukuna was uncharacteristic of him, something he admits himself, meaning Kusakabe's feats before the Shinjuku Showdown were not performed with his full power, so Megumi can downscale from them.

The shikigami from the Ten Shadows technique have been portrayed as either comparable or somewhat stronger than Megumi, so should receive the same scaling as he does. There is one tamed shikigami that is far above both Megumi and other Ten Shadows; Divine Dog: Totality was stated to be able to damage Special Grade Curses, supported by it harming Hanami when Megumi by himself was unable to, punching a hole through the Second Finger Bearer and fatally injuring Reggie Star who could physically overwhelm Megumi outside his Domain. Considering Hanami was more durable than Jogo, Divine Dog: Totality should scale to the Disaster Curses to some extent. However, given that Maximum Techniques are considered a unique attack which realizes the greatest potential of an innate technique and second only to Domain Expansions, and without confirmation that Totality is more powerful than Jogo, Megumi's tamed shikigami aren't scaling to Maximum: Meteor any time soon.

Mahoraga is a different story compared to Divine Dog: Totality. In the manga, it can survive and deflect Dismantle slashes from 15 Finger Sukuna, withstand a Cleave powerful enough to slash a skyscraper in half and send Sukuna flying through multiple buildings. In the anime adaptation, Mahoraga is depicted as being much closer to Sukuna's level, being able to adapt to the point where it can withstand a barrage of Sukuna's Dismantles, match Sukuna's punches and even regenerate from getting turned into bloody paste by Malevolent Shrine. Oh, and the anime is 100% canon. Given its performance against Sukuna, Mahoraga can be considered above characters who performed similarly or worse against Sukuna at a similar level of power, which includes Jogo, who failed to land a single hit on Sukuna and Ryu Ishigori, who was wounded by the same Dismantle slashes, as well as the various characters who can compare to them.

TL;DR,  Megumi himself is physically comparable to semi-Grade 1 and likely Grade 1 sorcerers. His shikigami are either roughly around his level or higher, with Divine Dog being on par physically with Special Grade Cursed Spirits including the Disaster Curses, while Mahoraga is the most powerful by downscaling from 15F Sukuna and upscaling from anyone inferior to him.

Gacha Game Scaling: Phantom Parade

If you've read the G1 Shigaraki vs Mahito 2025 blog, you'll have noticed that they included the JJK video game Phantom Parade, which has some crazy scaling like the Umibozu curse holding up and sinking an island and generating a whirlpool and storm, Teen Gojo being able to blow up a mountain (8 - 25 Megatons) and the Special Grade Curse Rozetsu creating and sustaining a giant tree (48.5 Kilotons to 357.55 Megatons). Megumi can solidly scale to Rozetsu due to him being outright stated to be inferior to Hanami, who Megumi (with Playful Cloud or help from Maki) and Divine Dog: Totality can harm, and being comparable to a weakened Yuji who survived a beatdown from a full power Rozetsu amped by his barrier and Sukuna's fingers. So, Mountain level Megumi?

Eh, no...possibly.

While Phantom Parade is supposed to tie into the JJK anime while recreating many of its scenes, there isn't any explicit confirmation of canonicity. The main plot point of the game is that there's an ancient cursed spirit called the Phantom Spirit that has been hovering menacingly over Japan while absorbing Cursed Energy. The player character has been transported into its Innate Domain, where its Cursed Technique, Phantom Parade (lmao), can manifest, which brings memories stored inside Cursed Energy into reality. Such a Curse does not exist in either the JJK manga or anime, making the game's canonicity questionable. Gege does possibly have oversight on the making of the game, based off the interactions between him and the developers, but that isn't a direct confirmation of canonicity, as there have been other instances where the original author as helped oversee works that aren't canon to the main continuity, as we will see (spoiler) later in this blog.

However, there is an argument for it being used as supplementary canon, as nothing in the storylines of Phantom Parade contradicts the main storyline of Jujutsu Kaisen, even setting up and aligning its continuity with the canon events of the Goodwill Event and Shibuya Incident and adding to the current canon, such as Hanami's Domain and what happens when you break a Binding Vow.

Is Phantom Parade canon? To be honest, I really don't know. While it generally does not contradict canon, there is little to suggest it is canon either. Whether it is usable or not is ultimately up to the your interpretation, but because of the lack of confirmation, I've decided to leave it out.

Weiss

Can Weiss Even See Ten Shadows?

As seen in the manga panel above, shikigami can't usually be seen by non-sorcerers. This question is tricky to answer considering RWBY lacks a comparable counterpart in their verse, but ultimately, the answer is yes. Shikigami are similar to Curses, and ordinary humans can see Curses in near-death situations. Junpei, despite not being born as a Sorcerer, could also see them. Even if this were not the case, Aura allows users to sense danger in their vicinity and fight completely blind, and while Curses usually can't be sensed by non-sorcerers, they still have a physical presence, meaning that even if Weiss could not see Megumi's shikigami, she should at least be able to detect and avoid them.

Why Wasn't Maiden Scaling Used?

Maiden scaling is one of, if not the most contentious point in RWBY scaling, and there is evidence both for and against it. However, after much consideration, I decided against using it for Weiss in this blog.

Maidens are narratively portrayed as being the strongest in their verse barring Ozma, Salem and the Gods. This is supported by Rooster Teeth's statement that the Cinder vs Raven fight in Volume 5 was portrayed the way it was to show just how powerful Maidens were in comparison to the rest of the cast, an idea further supported by Cinder's fights in Volume 8 against Penny and Winter. In contrast, whenever Cinder fought anyone who wasn't a Maiden, she was much less serious in comparison, like directly taunting Jaune over Pyrrha's death and impaling Weiss in Volume 5, to taunting Winter and Penny at the beginning of their fight in Volume 7, to going out of her way to kill a bunch of random civilians in Volume 8. Further evidence is shown in the Remnant Promenade artbook, which describes Maiden powers as being more powerful than Semblances.

A lot of the usual arguments used for downscaling from the Maidens quickly fall apart under scrutiny. Even a weakened and Auraless Amber could take out Mercury and Emerald out of the fight in a single hit with her magic, with the only reason she was defeated due to being caught off guard by attacks which eventually wore her Aura down. Whenever she activated her Maiden powers, she completely no-sold Emerald and Mercury's attacks. Winter was only able to cut Cinder's Grimm arm off due to it being a specific weak point that was unprotected by her Aura, so can not scale to her full durability, and Cinder nearly killed her afterwards were it not for Penny and Ruby intervening. Similar to Amber, Penny was only losing to the Ace-Ops due to being overwhelmed by their numbers, skill and Harriet's speed Semblance, and whenever she activated her Maiden powers, she was able to overwhelm them. Penny's Aura never flickered once during the fight, showing that significant damage was not being dealt. When Team RWBY fought Cinder, not a single one of them could hurt her and Blake only managed to hit Cinder with a surprise attack which she quickly recovered from, whereas Cinder was able to easily dispatch them in a few hits.

The power gap between Maidens and normal Huntsmen and Huntresses becomes much clearer in 1v1 situations. Ironwood's gun, which he claimed could take out Penny, was easily deflected back at him by Winter as soon as she became the Winter Maiden, incapacitating him. This was the same Ironwood who could fight head on with pre-Maiden Winter and even broke her Aura. Pyrrha was consistently displayed as inferior both physically and in terms of firepower when she fought and was ultimately killed by Cinder who had just become the Fall Maiden. During Cinder's fight with Neo, not only did she try to talk Neo out of fighting her, Neo immediately backed out of the fight as soon as Cinder activated her Maiden powers. There's even shown to be a discrepancy between Maidens, as shown by Fria, a 'fully realised' Maiden, who completely overwhelmed Cinder with raw power despite being unable to physically exert herself.

Weiss herself also has clear problems scaling to Maidens. Her Glyphs were consistently destroyed by Cinder with a single attack and her Aura was destroyed after only three or so hits, all while Cinder was fighting Penny at the same time. Weiss's feats of surviving Cinder's attacks without Aura have even more glaring problems. Firstly, Weiss wasn't even at the epicentre of the fire shockwave attack, meaning it's more likely that she survived due to Surface Area. Then when she fought Cinder in a physical fight, Cinder was able to easily disarm her and it was clear that Weiss was getting overwhelmed. Finally, while it seems like Weiss survived getting blasted into the Ever After, Jaune blocked most of the attack and it took out his Aura, someone who is explicitly considered to have more Aura than average, once again showing Weiss can't scale to Cinder's power.

In short, there are just too many holes in the arguments for Maiden scaling, and they have been consistently depicted as being on another level compared to Weiss and the main cast, so Weiss can not scale to them.

Vine F*cking Dies to the Mantle Bomb

Yes, I know this has been debated to hell and back, but since some people think Vine (and by extension the rest of the cast) scales to a bomb that vaporised him, let's briefly go over (again) why this feat is straight-up unusable.

The first and most obvious problem is that Vine dies to this explosion. You could try and argue that his Aura was being drained by using his Semblance, Aura Vines, but characters such as Ironwood and Flynt Coal contradict this by using their Semblance without affecting their Aura. Vine's Aura and Semblance are also different colours, suggesting that his constructs aren't literally an extension of his Aura, so he cannot scale to their durability.

No one else really scales to the durability of Aura Vines either, as none of the cast were able to break them at any point. Even Maiden Penny could only redirect them. On top of that, Vine never outputted the same amount of power in the fight between the Ace-Ops and Team RWBY. We've also debunked the possibility of Weiss scaling to this through the stronger Maidens, and even then Maiden Penny couldn't damage Vine's, erm, vines.

The other glaring issue is how the yield of the bomb is calculated. Firstly, if we accept the statements that the bomb would've destroyed Mantle, this does not require levelling the entire city. Supposing we were to accept that it did, the amount of thermal radiation released from the explosion would fry Atlas, something that explicitly goes against Ironwood's goals. The statements for the bomb's blast radius also comes from Harriet, who was not involved in the bomb's creation, has no information on the capabilities of the bomb, no idea of the actual timeframe of the bomb going off and no knowledge of blast engineering. It's difficult to take her statement at face value and not as some figure of speech.

Harriet also literally states that the bomb would kill everyone there, even when taking surface area into account, so there's that too.

Neo's Totally Legit Crater FeatTM

After being betrayed by Cinder, Neopolitan fell into the Ever After, seemingly creating a giant crater on impact, a feat that reaches 43.4 Kilotons of TNT. To put things simply, the actual crater formation feat is pretty rubbish. There's a distinct lack of evidence that Neo actually created the crater on impact, most notably the lack of ejecta (fancy word for debris). The crater itself has no visible raised rim or displaced material, there were no thermal effects such as smoke or burning which would typically accompany an impact with such high energy, and there's no lasting seismic impact such as forming cracks. The calc also claims that Neo created an explosion that was 'visible over the horizon', which blatantly isn't true. At the very most, it causes a shockwave that is noticed by the Jabberwalker and scares a few birds away, which all in all, isn't very impressive, especially given the lack of environmental damage and the same reactions could have been caused by the sound generated from impact, with the visible shaking of the screen being more of an artistic effect than anywhere near a real-life earthquake. The final nail in the coffin is that despite falling the exact same way into the Ever After, neither Team RWBY or Jaune created any craters on impact. There is too little evidence to suggest Neo created the crater and didn't just land in a conveniently large pit, making this feat unusable.

Town Level Centinels???

In RWBY Volume 8, two Centinels burrowed underneath Atlas's shield generators, collapsing them from underneath. The calc for this gets 24.9 Kilotons of TNT per Centinel. While it seems fine at a glance, there are number of problems with the calc's assumptions, such as assuming the Centinels were burrowing through rock. There's no confirmation that the shield generators were built on rock and the visuals could equally indicate dirt or clay or some other earthy material as much as it could indicate rock. The calc also assumes the Centinels formed the giant hole underneath the tower just by burrowing, but it's more likely the Centinel's burrowing destabilised the material above them, causing a natural collapse due to the weakened supports being unable to bear the weight of the shield generator, meaning the Centinel's didn't fully contribute to the full hole formation. Once again, there's too little evidence to suggest the assumptions of the calc are legitimate and therefore cannot be used.

Penny 'Lifts' Amity Tower

After getting hacked by Watt's virus, Penny was briefly able to lift Amity Tower without her Maiden powers. This would place her at 727.17 Tons (1/4 of the linked feat, as Penny was only supporting 1/4 of its weight due to only one gravity stabiliser failing), but due to physics, it's simply inapplicable for non-Maiden Penny.

Here's a force diagram:

In the actual scene itself, without her Maiden powers, Penny does not push Amity Tower further up, let alone to the same distance as she did in the calculation and with her Maiden powers, and is mostly supporting its weight. As seen in the diagram, this would require significantly less force to pull off, something that is also supported visually, so both non-Maiden Penny and Team RWBY can't scale to the full power of lifting Amity Tower, and we've already established Maiden scaling is inapplicable to the main cast. Trying to scale a weaker form to an explicitly more powerful one is also plain bad practice, so this calc is unusable too.

Do Androids Dream of FTL RWBY?

There are various calculations floating around which place RWBY from 0.032c to 4.12c, all thanks to Penny's Kamehameha laser beam and Ironwood's laser cannon. Except, they really aren't lasers.

Penny's laser has been stated to be a beam of light in Remnant Promenade artbook, but it constantly breaks the criteria of a real light beam. Mainly, it constantly pushes other objects, such as launching Neo or knocking and pushing back the Megoliath, as well as Penny visibly taking recoil from her beam, or using them to fly all the time, something light can't do due to lacking mass. While lasers can push objects due to radiation pressure, this is only feasible in a vacuum due to inertia, air resistance and gravity when on a planet's surface reducing the already tiny momentum of photons, so is inapplicable to this situation. Penny's laser also warbles and visibly disperses in a splashIronwood's laser face similar problems, sending opponents flying with fiery explosions and splashing like water. These are all qualities light does not possess, so neither Penny's nor Ironwood's lasers qualify as actual lasers.

Somehow, it gets worse; there has been an argument for the calculations being valid due to them being particle beams, based off this statement from RWBY writer Kiersi Burkhart. Except, Kiersi refers to them as lasers and the Spider Droid uses particle cannons, making the statement objectively false because actual lasers  particle beams. So either Kiersi is referring to them all as beams of light, which we've already disproven and is false information or she is referring to them all as particle beams...which she clearly isn't. Not to mention there is no reference to either Penny's or Ironwood's beams as particle beams in the show, guidebooks or any of the canon material. The particle beam argument is absolute rubbish and shouldn't be considered.

Are the RWBY Mangas Canon?

This is a weird one, because there are precisely three different RWBY mangas: the 2015 RWBY manga, the Official Manga Anthology and RWBY: The Official Manga. It can get a bit confusing at times keeping track of all of them and their canonicity, so let's break it down.

The 2015 manga by Shirow Miwa is canon, as confirmed by RWBY writer Kerry Shawcross in the RWBY Volume 3 Finale livestream, describing it as 'canon til 'it's not canon' and confirming that the RWBY writers did work with Miwa on the story. So, pretty much canon and perfectly usable.

On the other hand, the RWBY: Official Manga Anthology is non-canon, despite what r/RWBY says (There's a lesson kiddos, don't blindly trust Reddit). Miles Luna, another RWBY writer, describes the anthology as 'fanfiction', which it is; the Anthologies are a collection of short stories written and drawn by fans. While the writers of RWBY did possess some oversight, such as apparently pointing out non-canon aspects, this isn't a direct confirmation of canonicity, similar to why I rejected Phantom Parade canonicity in Megumi's section. Even the writer for the Official Manga Anthology, Home-Sha, had no idea whether it was canon.

The Anthologies also blatantly contradict canon on multiple occasions, such as in I Burn, with Weiss suddenly gaining the ability to summon a planet destroying meteor, and describing it as the Schnee family's ultimate technique, despite it being shown to be Summoning in the show and none of the Schnees ever mentioning this ability at all, let alone using it. There's also Yang being recognised as a hero that saved the world and having statues built in her honour for stopping Weiss's meteor, which straight up doesn't happen. The Anthologies are pretty non-canon and are unusable.

Sorry, no island scaling or roleplaying as Jogo for Weiss.

Lastly, there's RWBY: The Official Manga by Bunta Kinami, which I initially had no idea whether it was canon or not. There are no official statements on the canonicity of this manga (trust me, I've tried looking). It's mostly a retelling of Volume 1 and 2 and doesn't alter the events significantly, and was originally published by Viz Media, the current owner of RWBY, so I initially considered it to be canon - until I did some more digging and found some interesting canon contradictions that led to me marking it as non-canon, for now.

One example is the personality changes in the manga, the most blatant being Roman Torchwick's, who's somehow been dialled up to unhinged psychopath levels and even threatens to kill Neo if she 'interferes' despite her saving his life, something that would make no sense considering their backstory in the Roman Holiday novel and their dynamic in the show. Other personality changes include Ruby, Weiss and Ironwood, although those are relatively minor in comparison.

There are also various small changes in events which are enough to warrant their canonicity being questioned, like the Nevermore destroying an entire mountain (no 299 Tons scaling for you :P), Neo being implied to have been originally a part of Cinder's group, Cinder being absent from her initial introduction in the show and various scenes being cut and never referenced. On their own they might not be enough to prove non-canonicity, but they suggest a significant deviation between the timelines of the Official Manga and the show to consider them separate entities.

Without statements confirming its status in canon as well as various canon contradictions, The Official Manga can't really be used for the verdict.

Oh, and the Ice Queendom Manga is canon. Idk why I forgot to mention it. MOVING ON-

Are The RWBY X JL Movies Canon?

somehow, slander from Ruby vs Maka returned.

Short Answer: Absolutely Not.

Long Answer: While the RWBY DC Comics run is canon (but not the crossover comic, due to the aforementioned interview referencing the 2019 comics, with no statements on the 2021 comic canonicity), the two RWBY x Justice League crossover films are more complicated.

There is an argument for the RWBY X JL films being canon due to this CBR interview with Kerry Shawcross, one of the writers of RWBY, who puts it as 'canon-adjacent'. So, basically canon, right?

If it weren't for the seven statements from RWBY's animation brand director Christine Brent confirming the film isn't canon and the statement is inaccurate, not to mention how neither DC or RWBY ever reference the events of the two films. Even if it somehow were, there's no reason to assume RWBY should be comparable to mainline DC characters.

So no, I don't want to hear anything about Weiss scaling to Superman.

Verdict

Stats

Starting out with strength, this entirely depends on who and what we're discussing. For their low ends, Megumi fought on par with semi-Grade 1 sorcerer Noritoshi Kamo, who could harm Cursed Womb Naoya, who in a weaker form plowed through an entire town, placing him at 124.2 tons. Weiss's own feats are in a similar ballpark, with her staggering the Atlesian Colossus getting 174.2 tons, putting her slightly above Megumi, but not enough to justify a major advantage. As for high end scaling, Weiss can scale to her Arma Gigas cutting the Queen Lancer in half which could tank an explosion equivalent to 249.5 tons of TNT and Yang who melted steel cubes with energy equal to 326 tons, making Weiss 2.62x stronger than Megumi...if it were not for Megumi's own high ends, such as downscaling from Kusakabe blocking Uzumaki, which is either 276.8 tons or 3.98 kilotons depending on whether the manga or anime is used. The anime end is valid considering it is canon to the manga, so accounting for high ends Megumi is 12.2x stronger. Even without it Megumi can also downscale from Todo and Yuji who withstood Mahito's Body Repel, which gets up to 2.713 kilotons, an 8.32x advantage.

While physical advantage seems debatable, Megumi's shikigami solidly outclass Weiss in strength. Divine Dog: Totality can harm Special Grade curses and could tear a chunk out of Hanami's arm, whose tree creation feat gets to 3 kilotons. Hanami is more durable than Jogo, whose lava creation feat gets up to 44.9 kilotons, 137x stronger than Weiss's best. This isn't even accounting for Mahoraga being superior to Jogo's Maximum: Meteor, which can get from 740 kilotons to 79.5 megatons depending on your interpretation. Megumi has a clear strength advantage with his stronger shikigami.

In terms of speed, the advantage clearly favours one side. Megumi was considered to be stronger than pre-Heavenly Restriction Maki who caught bullets point-blank, a feat which reaches Mach 21.3. However, Weiss's feats completely eclipse this due to scaling to Mercury and Emerald who dodged lightning, getting Mach 549 at a high end. While Megumi could get higher due to being comparable to Nobara performing a Black Flash which requires reaction speeds of up to Mach 932.9, Weiss scaling to Adam blocking a particle cannon puts her at 42.2% the speed of light, making her 398x faster than Megumi. Even accounting for Mahoraga scaling above Hakari who dodged lightning, getting Mach 2636, still makes Weiss 140x faster. This gap will only increase if Weiss uses her Time Dilation Glyph to boost her speed even further. Weiss solidly takes speed.

Arsenal and Abilities

Both Megumi and Weiss have a vast assortment of powers thanks to Ten Shadows and Glyphs respectively, so it's important to look at their arsenal and abilities in detail.

On paper, Weiss's Semblance is much more versatile than Megumi's Ten Shadows. She can create various constructs to hinder or attack Megumi with her Ice, bombard him with projectiles from Glyphs+, Ice, Fire and Hard Light Glyphs or even her summons like the Queen Lancer or Nevermore, increase the speed gap with time dilation or lock down Megumi and his shikigami with her Gravity Glyphs. Even without it, Weiss still has multiple wide ranging offensive options thanks to the Dust vials stored in Mytrenaster, allowing her to pressure Megumi with everything from whirlwinds to waves of fire to just point blank zapping him with electricity. By contrast, outside of Nue and Max Elephant, Megumi lacks the same range and AoE attacks, as most of his shikigami rely on getting close for physical strikes, which is a problem if your opponent can comfortably blast you into kingdom come from a distance, on top of being able to outmanoeuvre you easily with their superior speed, which gets even worse when accounting for Time Dilation Glyphs, making Weiss nearly untouchable. Weiss's Dust could also lock down Megumi's summoning by freezing him solid with Ice Dust, preventing him from creating the necessary hand symbols to summon his shikigami, and while Megumi could likely break out by himself, it would still delay him due to lacking cold resistance and give enough time for Weiss to land a critical blow. It may be possible for Weiss to even permanently cripple him by freezing and shattering his body parts, and without Reverse Cursed Technique, it would be enough to incapacitate Megumi, although whether Weiss would do this in character is very, very questionable. She could also use her lightning dust to stun him, considering Megumi doesn't possess any resistance to electricity, to achieve a similar effect to her ice.

However, Megumi also has plenty of ways to take out Weiss and counter her own advantages, the biggest being hiding in shadows. Megumi could completely conceal himself and any shikigami he summoned in a nearby shadow, including Weiss's, to avoid her attacks. Weiss wouldn't be able to detect him since Aura's danger sensing capabilities rely on a physical presence, which shadows lack, allowing Megumi to catch her off-guard either by ambushing her or summoning his shikigami from within her shadow, especially dangerous considering just how much more powerful his shikigami like Divine Dog: Totality are than Weiss. He could also use his shadow to trap Weiss or at least throw her off balance if she attempts to engage in close quarters combat, leaving her open to his attacks. Nue's paralysis-inducing shocks would also prevent her from using her speed advantage and leave her open for Megumi to finish off with. If push comes to shove, Megumi can use the Nue plus Gama fusions from the Well's Unknown Abyss or Rabbit Escape to intercept her projectiles, or use Cursed Energy reinforcement to protect himself. Funnily enough, Megumi could likely withstand Weiss's fireballs due to a weakened Nanami surviving Jogo's flames which are much more powerful than Weiss's and Megumi being stronger than him at that moment. However, the simplest way Megumi can counter her abilities is to simply destroy the Glyphs, canceling their effects, and due to his strength advantage and stealth capabilities with shadows, alongside that the Glyphs are stationary and have been shown to break under enough force, he should be more than capable of pulling this off, which means restraining him with Glyphs likely isn't an option either. While Weiss could similarly knock out Megumi's abilities by destroying his shikigami, this is a lot easier said than done in comparison when she can't reliably harm his strongest shikigami and Megumi can quickly desummon to prevent their destruction.

Speaking of summoning, when directly comparing Weiss and Megumi's summoning abilities, Weiss does have the initial edge due to not having to worry about her summons being permanently destroyed as she can simply resummon them and having a wider range of summons at her theoretical peak. Some of Megumi's shikigami such as the Well's Unknown Abyss and Rabbit Escape also don't need to worry about being destroyed, although they're much weaker in comparison to Weiss's summons, which they make up for in numbers. This does theoretically mean Weiss could simply dispatch Megumi's entire arsenal by killing all his shikigami, but this isn't reliable due to the aforementioned reasons but also due to the abilities of the destroyed shikigami being inherited by others, empowering them and making Megumi stronger mid-fight. Both of them can also just about summon their avatars and shikigami from anywhere they want, and both of their summoning processes can be interrupted. Megumi does have an advantage in that he can conceal his shikigami in shadows or summon them while he is inside one, which prevents Weiss from disrupting the summoning process, and Arma Gigas takes a considerably longer time to summon compared to Megumi's shikigami, making it easier to interrupt, especially with his faster summons such as Orochi. But then again, Weiss could counter this by summoning parts of the Arma Gigas, which would still be enough to block and deal damage. Both of their summons also possess similar capabilities, such as flight and powerful ranged and physical attacks. In terms of summoning, neither has a significant advantage over the other when it comes to capabilities.

That is, of course, until you bring in Mahoraga.

The Mahoraga Factor

Mahoraga carries so hard that it deserves its own section.

Weiss has no answer whatsoever to Mahoraga. First off, while she could try and interrupt the summoning process like Sukuna did, this only worked due to Sukuna catching Megumi off-guard and while Megumi was still reeling from emotional shock reveal that his literal sister had been possessed by Yorozu. With her superior speed and ability to attack from multiple angles with Glyphs, it is possible for Weiss to pull off, but Megumi could always just reposition or use his other shikigami or shadows to stall, and it's unlikely that he would be caught off guard like he did when he's in active combat.

The main problem is Mahoraga's adaptation. While Weiss has an incredibly versatile arsenal, she lacks the firepower to destroy Mahoraga in one go due to the stat difference and its regeneration, including regeneration from being reduced to a bloody paste, which would allow the shikigami to eventually adapt to all of Weiss's arsenal, leaving her without any options. Mahoraga could also adapt to Aura, similar to how it adapted to bypass Infinity, meaning if Weiss gets hit once, Mahoraga could adapt a way to bypass it entirely, finishing the fight. Weiss's speed advantage would allow her to stall for time, but she will tire eventually while being unable to harm the shikigami, whereas Mahoraga can keep going while regenerating its injuries, allowing the shikigami to outlast her, and that's not accounting for it using its air blasts or growing to a giant size or some other adaptation to catch Weiss.

Now, you could deem this unreliable as Mahoraga would be equally likely to attack Megumi as Weiss, but Megumi only really tends to use this as an absolute last resort and he can't die in the ritual until either Weiss or Mahoraga does, assuming he does die. We've already covered why this is a perfectly usable win condition in Before the Verdict, so Megumi could just summon Mahoraga and it would all be wraps for Weiss...at the cost of him likely dying, but hey, a win is a win.

Does Megumi have other ways to win other than a walking Hail Mary? As it turns out, yes.

The first is Chimera Shadow Garden. Megumi can always draw Weiss into an enclosed area, which he has done so in the past, and use his Domain Expansion. While it lacks a sure-hit mechanic, it is still extremely useful in countering Weiss's mobility due to allow Megumi to attack from all angles, including above, all while summoning multiple clones of himself and his shikigami to bombard her from every angle. Weiss would also be forced to constantly use her Glyphs to avoid drowning in Megumi's shadows, further restricting her movement. She could exploit the Domain's conditions by creating a lot of ice and rock or dropping Arma Gigas into the shadow, forcing Megumi to bear the weight and potentially crush him or force him to dispel the Domain, but Megumi can turn this against her like he did against Reggie by grabbing onto her, essentially transferring the weight onto her, and it doesn't prevent him from continuing to summon shikigami to attack.

The second is to exploit his power advantage with Totality and break Weiss's Aura, which is a perfect time to compare Aura and Cursed Energy. Aura definitely has its advantages, as it is much better at protecting from physical damage than Cursed Energy reinforcement, which does not negate damage in the same way, and it also protects Weiss from the harmful properties of Cursed Energy, since those require injuries to create. That's where Aura's advantages ends; if it breaks, Weiss can no longer use her Semblance, and it takes long time to recover. By contrast, Megumi is always producing Cursed Energy, and he can gain a boost from negative emotions. Obviously this is unreliable, but Megumi could also use Revealing One's Hand to boost his output when burnt out, meaning that as long as Megumi can output enough damage consistently, he will be able to outlast Weiss and break her Aura, disabling all of her advantages.

This isn't to say that Weiss doesn't possess any advantages, as many of Megumi's win conditions, outside of Mahoraga, aren't something he can pull off with guaranteed full effectiveness and we've already covered some potential ways Weiss could use her abilities to win, and on top of generally being much more versatile and having more options to pressure and overwhelm Megumi. Similar to how Megumi can drain her Aura, Weiss can just pressure him with continuous elemental attacks and rapier strikes from multiple angles and wait for Megumi to run out of Cursed Energy while defending and finish him off, which is something Weiss can do with her speed, long range arsenal and avatars.

This is extremely close; both have very versatile arsenals which generally match each other while possessing their own advantages which can reliably take the opponent out for the count. However, due to his shadow abilities and Mahoraga which Weiss has no answer to, Megumi takes abilities by a paper thin margin.

Tertiary Factors

So with both fighters having one stat advantage skewed in their favour, and a variety of abilities which they can use to overwhelm the other, there is one deciding factor left to determine who would be able to exploit their advantages and their opponent's weaknesses first. That factor is intelligence, or battle IQ to be precise.

Suffice to say, Megumi comfortably takes this category.

Don't get me wrong, Weiss has shown strategic and creative thinking in the past, such as helping plan against Ironwood, but it hardly stacks up against Megumi's showings, who consistently displays high tactical intellect. He could deduce the mechanics of Jiro Awasaka's Inverse technique and its upper and lower limits, before coming up with an effective strategy to take down the curse user by combining weak and strong attacks. He later worked out the more complex Love Rendezvous by using Rabbit Escape the work out the coverage, linking the markings to the Southern Cross constellation and tricking Kirara into confirming his hypothesis, before using the technique against them by putting Kirara between himself and Divine Dog when they were attracted to each other. Megumi was also able to deduce Hanami's weak point as his eye branches after observing Noritoshi's Piercing Blood attack.

Megumi is also great at deception, as shown against Dagon, Kirara and Reggie, allowing him to blindside them from his true aims in a fight. He has shown clever use of his environment to nullify his opponent's advantages, such as forcing Noritoshi out into the open where he was vulnerable to Nue, activating fire sprinklers to enhance the power of Nue's electricity, narrowing Toji's attack options to throw off his footing and grab him while redirecting his attack to a non-vital area and luring Reggie into a gymnasium and using Reggie's own attack to launch them into a swimming pool to nullify his technique.

What I'm getting at here is that Megumi is going to work out how Glyphs and Aura work way before Weiss can understand Ten Shadows and Cursed Energy, especially when he's dealt with more complex abilities in the past. This will allow him to capitalise on her weaknesses such as breaking the Glyphs to nullify their effects, using Nue's electricity to bypass Aura or destroying her avatars mid-summoning to deny their usage. The problem with Weiss's win conditions is that they rely on her being able to understand how Ten Shadows work; she isn't going to link shadowgraphy to summoning right off the bat, and it's unlikely for her to work out the conditions of Megumi's Domain without experimenting or linking his lack of weapons to having to bear their weight, neither of which she is guaranteed to do. This is going to be even more difficult with Megumi's deception, as he can and has hidden his cards before, which is going to hamper Weiss's understanding of his abilities.

The real kicker is that this tactical thinking is going to help Megumi overcome his biggest disadvantage: speed. When Megumi fought Toji, the latter was much faster to the extent that Megumi could barely avoid his attacks, yet he was able to limit this advantage by drawing him into an alleyway and throwing off his momentum with his shadow, allowing Megumi to grab onto him and land a finishing blow with his sword. While this failed due to the immense gap in speed and strength, and Weiss may not fall for the same trick, it goes to show that Megumi has fought much faster opponents and found ways around it, and it's not his only showing of dealing with an opponent with a speed advantage, such as against Noritoshi Kamo, where Megumi distracted the Kamo heir with a weakened shikigami before blasting him outside with Max Elephant's water cannon, nullifying the latter's physical advantage. Megumi has enough experience dealing with faster opponents and could realistically come up with a strategy to overcome the difference in speed between him and Weiss. If we think about this vice versa, outside of trying to draw Megumi into a war of attrition, Weiss neither has the tools or the intellect to overcome Megumi's strength advantage. Even so, Megumi has been able to fight even when injured and exhausted or suffering from burnout. In terms of intelligence, Megumi has a decisive advantage.

To be fair to Weiss, she is arguably the more skilled combatant of the two, or at least in weapon to weapon combat. Weiss doesn't really have any displays of hand to hand combat, whereas sorcerers have an entire fighting style revolving around using Cursed Energy in combat, something Megumi has used frequently. In terms of armed combat however, while Megumi was trained by Maki and could quickly pick up fighting styles with different weapons, his swordsmanship is a lot more crude compared to Weiss's fencing style, which also heavily capitalises on her main advantage, speed. Not to mention, Weiss has been trained by Winter and the Ace-Ops, some of the best fighters in Atlas, and has been training with Mytrenaster a lot long longer than Megumi has been training with swords. Weiss possesses a slight edge in skill, although it's not nearly enough to compensate for her shortcomings.

Conclusion

  • Not as skilled in CQC
  • Somehow still a bum
  • r/jujutsufolk hate him

Weiss

Choose the fighting style (Weiss Schnee).-We all see that Weiss depends mostly on her weapon, Myrtenaster, and her semblance,

"I'm not siding with anyone. I'm doing what feels right, and that does not include wasting my time up here with these clueless people in Atlas. The Schnee family legacy isn't yours to leave. It's mine, and I'll do it as a Huntress."

Advantages:

  • Slightly stronger physically with low ends
  • Faster regardless of ends
  • Aura is a better defence than Cursed Energy
  • Better AoE with Dust Glyphs
  • Semblance is more versatile than Megumi's CT
  • Can cut off Megumi's main powerset by freezing or electrocuting him...

  • Nega Weiss
Disadvantages:
  • Weaker than Megumi with high ends, and badly outclassed by shikigami such as Totality
  • Weaker summons
  • Aura can't be recovered easily
  • Megumi can counter her speed with Domain Expansion and shadows
  • Can't do anything about Megumi hiding in shadows
  • ...but that would require her having foreknowledge of how Megumi's summoning works to be effective
  • ...but she can't protect herself from being attacked from all angles
  • ...at the risk of Megumi turning that against her
  • Could get overwhelmed by Rabbit Escape or Megumi's clones
  • Megumi can destroy her Glyphs and disrupt her summoning
  • Not as tactically intelligent
  • No answer to Mahoraga
  • Win conditions rely on foreknowledge or can be countered
  • RWBY Volume 8
  • Abysmal W/L ratio

This was hands down one of the most complex and close match-ups I have dealt with, and I ended up going back and forth a lot over the final verdict, since both characters have reliable arguments for either winning. At their respective peaks, Megumi was much stronger including shikigami, and Weiss was much faster. Their respective abilities were also very close cut, and both had reliable ways of taking out the other, such as Megumi using Domain Expansion or using his shikigami to drain Weiss's Aura through cumulative damage and destroying her Glyphs, and Weiss drawing out the fight with her superior range until Megumi exhausted himself or freezing him solid to prevent his summoning, but Megumi simply had a slight advantage in his shadow abilities which Weiss couldn't reliably handle. This was further cemented by Megumi's greater tactical prowess, meaning he would discover and exploit his advantages and Weiss's weaknesses before Weiss could, while finding ways around her win conditions.

Oh, and Mahoraga was just an instant win button.

"MAHORAGA HELP ME HEEELLPPPP MAHORAGA OOHH NOO"

Without a shadow of a doubt, Weiss was Cursed to lose, as all her chances of victory became Dust.

imma see myself out- (GET OUT!!! - Pegasus)
